David Cassidy is hospitalized and battling organ failure, Gossip Cop confirms. A rep tells us the ailing star is “surrounded by family” during this difficult time.

Cassidy was reportedly admitted to a Florida hospital a few days ago after his health greatly deteriorated over the last two months. Both his liver and kidney are currently failing, and a transplant of the former is said to be critical for his survival. While it was initially said he is in an induced coma, the spokesperson tells us Cassidy is now conscious. Still, the situation remains serious.

As Gossip Cop reported, in February Cassidy revealed he was suffering from dementia. He said his struggles with memory loss were affecting his music career, and announced he was retiring to focus on his health. “I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions. I want to love. I want to enjoy life,” he told People. Cassidy shared that his mother and grandfather also both had dementia. “I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming,” he admitted.

Weeks later, Cassidy’s nephew, Jack Cassidy, was featured on “The Voice.” The aspiring star explained he was following in his family’s famous footsteps and wanted to “carry on the family legacy.” With his Blind Audition, none of the coaches knew his lineage when Adam Levine and Alicia Keys pushed their buttons for him. Jack chose to join Team Alicia, but was eliminated during the Knockouts. Keys reinstated Jack as her “comeback artist” for the Live Playoffs, but he did not make the Top 12.

Cassidy, of course, is best known for starring on “The Partridge Family.” In the last decade, however, his enduring talent was often overshadowed by alcohol addiction and runs-in with the law. The news of Cassidy’s hospitalization was first reported by TMZ. Gossip Cop will have updates as appropriate.
