Best Walmart Black Friday Doorbusters and Deals 2017

Prices are already rolling back at Walmart, but the real Black Friday deals start on Thanksgiving.

In a bid to differentiate itself from Amazon, Walmart is vying to get more shoppers to actually shop in its stores this holiday season—before, during and after Black Friday. The world’s biggest bricks-and-mortar retailer is throwing theme-focused “parties” that offer customers a chance to check out products before purchasing them (at a discount, naturally). Walmart is also staffing more “holiday helpers” to assist customers and adding a color-coding system to make it easier to navigate aisles. And even if you place an order online, Walmart is offering additional savings if you agree to come in to your local store to pick it up. Free two-day shipping to your home only applies to online orders totaling $35 or more.

Rebecca Lehmann, manager at deals site BradsDeals.com, thinks it might be worth the trip. “For Walmart specifically,” she says, “there are always going to be deals in-store that you just can’t get online.”

Walmart’s Black Friday deals will be available in stores starting at 6 p.m. local time on Thanksgiving Day. (On Walmart.com, the Black Friday deals begin even earlier: at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on Thanksgiving.) This year, in-store deals may not be quite as limited because Walmart has more than tripled the number of products available compared with last holiday season. The retailer has even done away with the wristband system used to manage its high-demand, low-supply doorbuster items. Still, supplies won’t last forever, so shop early if you can’t live without something listed on Walmart’s Black Friday ad.

Here are some of the best Black Friday bargains to gobble up at Walmart starting on Thanksgiving:

Televisions

Doorbuster deals on an idiot box are a no-brainer. “TVs, videogame consoles and other electronics see the lowest prices of the year during Thanksgiving weekend from the most number of stores,” says Eric Jones, co-owner of BestBlackFriday.com.

Walmart promises doorbuster prices on several TVs, including a 39-inch Element Smart TV for $125 and a 55-inch Sharp Class 4K Smart TV for $298. Jones likes the latter deal in particular: “It’s not the cheapest 55-inch 4K TV this year, but this deal is a solid combination of quality, brand and price,” he says. Lehmann’s top pick is the Samsung 65-inch Curved 4K Smart TV for $998, marked down from $1,298.

DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs

You can also pick up plenty of viewing options to go with a new TV. “Yes, Walmart will have cheap TVs, but where TVs get headlines, the hidden savings come from their huge selection of sale-priced DVDs and Blu-Rays,” says Brent Shelton with Dealcrunch.com. Indeed, Walmart is advertising more than 200 DVDs for less than $2 and more than 100 Blu-Rays for less than $6.

Tablets, Phones and Other Gadgets

Walmart’s stable of electronics doesn’t end there. Lehmann and Jones both like the retailer’s offer for select Apple and Samsung phones, including Apple’s iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X and Samsung’s Note8, Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. You can pick one up for no money down and schedule an appointment to get it activated in-store with AT&T or Verizon—a ho-hum offer you’re likely to find at other retailers, too. The big bonus at Walmart: You get a $300 store gift card with your smartphone purchase.

Among tablets, Jones notes a particularly good deal for Apple: A 32-gigabyte, fifth generation Apple iPad (Wi-Fi only) will go for just $249, down from $329. “It is sometimes tough to find deals on iPads, and $80 off this one is a great purchase,” he says.

Lehmann also recommends the Google Home Mini, originally $49, now for just $29 and paired with a $25 Google Express credit, which is basically a Walmart gift card that you can spend using your new Google gadget.

Clothing

Not all holiday buys need to be charged (electronically speaking, that is—though we wouldn’t necessarily recommend charging them all to your credit card either). “One category that gets lost in the doorbuster frenzy is clothing,” says Shelton. “And Walmart might lead the pack in low pricing on cozy apparel during Black Friday events.”

A particularly good deal, according to Lehmann: kids’ character sleep sets. These jammies sporting the likes of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, as well as Batman, Paw Patrol, My Little Pony and other children’s favorites, will go for $4.75 each. Grownups can get comfy on the cheap, too. Men’s graphic sleep pants—also covered in characters such as Jack Skellington, Deadpool and the Punisher—are just $6 each. Women’s plush sleep pants are just $4.50 a pair.
